Review

Wow! I really loved this book! This was chosen for a book club read, not my own choice. But what a great book. I'll have to try more of this author's work.
I read some of the reviews before I read the book. One particularly complained about all the elephant stuff. Well, how else could the author have emphasized that main theme of the "forever mother" without the elephant stories going on. Alice was constantly studying mother elephants and talking about the training within the herd from the time young females were old enough to not be mothered themselves. Also, the fact that daughters never leave their mothers. And it's common knowledge that elephant herds are matriarchal.
I was totally caught off-guard though with the turn about at the end with Jenna and Virgil and the rest of them. I simply hadn't gone down that path and considered that Serenity had gotten her full powers back and that we were looking at it the wrong way. Though once the idea was presented, it made it all so simple. Definitely a good read!
