The Beekeeper's Ball - Susan Wiggs
A great follow-up to The Apple Orchard! This is Isabel's story, of course. It's also full of the family background of how the two sisters were born on the same exact day, how their father was adopted and how the grandparents met. It also gives quite a history of the beginning of the war in Denmark from the peoples' point of view: the mistreatment of the Jewish community, the deportation of the Jews to the "work camps", the forced impregnation of young girls to breed the Arian race. All sorts of truths come out once the stories start getting told, not just the ones kept by Magnus from his granddaughters. It seems just about everyone is keeping secrets, and some of them are pretty surprising! Now, I just have to be patient and wait for the next book!
